Newsletter Term 4 2011
Osu and Hello to Students and Parents,
Doesn't time fly by. My apologies for not getting this newsletter out sooner. I actually started writing it before this term started. Thank you all for your patience with regards to where we've been training, unfortunately my optimism hasn't translated into a quick move to our new location. Latest update is that I have had access and with help from a couple of willing volunteers, Rowan Nicks and Craig Pagett, we have achieved approx. 90% of the clean up and alterations. Yesterday I signed a lease for 3 years subject to some condition changes, and so with some more work in the next couple of weeks, we should be training from Shop 5, 22 - 32 Pacific Highway, Wyong, in the next 2 -3 weeks.
Congratulations to all those that have graded recently. It is wonderful to have so many coloured belts in the class. Everybody who attends training at least twice per week is getting themselves closer to the next grade, keep it up! For those that don't know, there are minimum requirements to grade. They are as follows… 20 sessions minimum since last grading before attempting all junior grades 10th kyu(red belt) to 5th kyu(yellow belt with black stripe), 40 sessions minimum before attempting 4th kyu (green belt) to 1st kyu (brown belt with black stripe), as well as approval from your instructor with regards to appropriate commitment, effort, attitude, etc. Once you are a 1st Kyu there is a 1 year wait(subject to instructors recommendation) before attempting !st Dan/Shodan (black belt with 1 gold stripe).

Equipment: Please ensure your child brings their shinpads and gloves, and water to every session. Also, now that the weather has turned extreme, I have mentioned to the kids that they can train wearing a karate t-shirt on the really hot days (if they have one, we will be ordering more soon) or a plain white t-shirt instead of their karate top (they will still need their karate pants and belt).
Last Grading for the year will on Saturday the 10th of December. Students will be informed in the week prior whether they are eligible, taking into account the information above about minimum number of sessions and instructors advice. Kids will grade in the morning from 9.00am to 11.00am and adults from 11.30am until later.
We will be having an end of year beach session and BBQ on Saturday the 17th at Jenny Dixon Reserve which is just off Wilfred Barrett Drive (100m) on the way to Norah Head. Session will start at 10am, followed by a swim and then a BBQ in the park near the carpark. Parents and friends are invited, bring your swimmers and a camera, it's always a lot of fun. This session marks the end of the year for the kids, however the adults last session will be Friday the 23rd December. First session for the kids in 2012 will be Tuesday 31st January. First session for adults is to be confirmed, but is looking like either Tuesday the 10th or 17th of January.
Thank you to all the parents and carers who get the children to karate, and especially Danielle who brings half the class sometimes. Also, please encourage the kids to behave with respect, they recite the following verse before every class and it goes a long way if they are reminded of it again outside of the Dojo. Especially "never misuse Karate".
I will respect my parents
I will respect my teachers
I will respect my classmates
I will always try my best
I will never misuse Karate
Thank you again for letting me teach you (and/or your child/ren) Karate,
Sensei Graeme Rose
